BABIES SUFFER FROM INDOOR AIR POLLUTION, TOO!This is a reprint, please read in its entirety... Proud parents of a new baby have just arrived home from the hospital. This tiny one, with an immune system that hasn't been tested yet, is about to experience an environmental nightmare. The caring parents have lovingly decorated the baby's room. New carpet covers the floor. New paint and cute animal wallpaper surround the shiny enameled crib. A particleboard changing table covered with Formica and a plastic playpen completes the room. This tiny new baby is gently placed upon a foam mattress with a plastic (anti-wetting) cover and new sheets with permanent press finish. Is there anything wrong with this picture? Has anyone thought about the purity of the air that the little one is breathing? Exposing this little infant to multitude of hazardous chemicals is often more than his or her new immune system can handle. The carpet contains numerous toxins known to cause illness. Paint and adhesives contain harmful Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and plastics release chemical gases. Permanent press fabrics contain among other things Formaldehyde which is strongest when the fabric is new. The ideal solution is to use non-toxic paint and decorating materials as well as cotton bedding, even if you have to change the sheets more often. The responsible thing to do is include an air treatment device in the room, especially if commercial decorating materials are used. Our babies do not come with a blueprint for removing the thousands of new chemicals that have been introduced since 1940. Mothers who breathe toxic chemicals during pregnancy can affect the child's ability in greater numbers than ever before...why? Would air treatment prevent or at least alleviate their symptoms? Definitely YES! In the book, "Your Health and Your House", 100 health symptoms and the indoor pollutants which aggravate them are described. The solution in almost every case is to reduce these toxins by providing proper air treatment and air exchange. Even if people disregard their own health, they surely must be watchful of their child's health. A simple investment now in an air treatment device can save untold dollars in future medical bills and provide the children with a healthier life. Nina Anderson, co-author of "Your Health and Your House" published by Keats Publishing, Inc., is President of The Scientific Alliance for Education, a non-profit group dedicated to indoor environmental education. She has built a non-toxic model home. In her book she recommends adding both negative ions and activated oxygen (03) to the indoor air. These are the active ingredients of fresh air. She also lists Alpine Living Air. the only manufacturer combing activated oxygen with an energy field negative ion generator, as one of the recommended manufacturer of air cleaning systems.
